December 5th marks the day that the 18th Amendment was repealed ending the Prohibition era in the United States. After thirthteen years without the legal sale of alcohol, Americans were once again allowed to indulge in spirits. In celebration of this important day in cocktail culture, Old Granddad Whisky and Charleston Rickshaw sponsored a pub crawl and cocktail contest. Charleston Mixologists were challenged to make a signature Repeal Day cocktail using Old Granddad Whisky. Judges were encouraged to dress in 1920’s era clothing and taste six different competing cocktails at six different downtown bars. A caravan of rickshaws were parked out front each location ready to chauffeur boa draped flappers to their next cocktail and small bite. The event concluded at the aptly named Prohibition bar on King to the tunes of a 1920’s swing band.
