Charleston Vikings

Scotch on the beach may sound like a naughty cocktail name but it actually describes our afternoon with Highland Park Scotch and the United States Bartender’s Guild. We boarded a bus and headed over to the Windjammer on Isle of Palms. I’m embarrassed to say it was the first time we’ve had our feet in the sand all 2017.

We sipped frozen pineapple and whisky coladas while a few fellas played giant beer pong with trash cans and beach balls.

After a lunch of pulled pork and fixin’s, we teamed up for a battle of the sexes.

Fueled by Highland Park mules, our team of all girl boozy lovers were challenged to build a sea vessel using only cardboard boxes, duct tape and trash bags.

We’ve faced worse. We carefully thought and comfort in mind, we secured a 4 sided floating craft complete with team flag and drink holder, we needed it to toast our victory.

The boat built by the guys team took on water and quickly capsized under a wave. Never modest about triumph, the ladies team was sent home with a bottle of the Single Malt Scotch.

Inspired by another victory, we create a cocktail in honor of our accomplishment.

Miss Naturally Crowned Charleston

Miss Naturally Crowned

On June 24th, History was made in Charleston, South Carolina. “Miss Naturally Crowned” was the First Natural Hair beauty pageant to come to the American Theater.  Nine beautiful, black, natural women walked across the stage that night. We were so thankful to be in attendance, and happy to be a part of it.

Jessica and Maureen, have been putting on this event in Columbia for the last three years. They decided to create a pageant to fund a natural hair beauty supply store that they want to open in Columbia. They started the “Miss Naturally Crowned” franchise in December of 2013 and received an overwhelming response. It’s become one of the most creative, unique events to happen in the natural hair community. These besties/co-owners created a platform where women of color could be celebrated for naturally being themselves; that’s pretty rare and amazing to us. They also empowered women of color to be proud of who they are. We love that and were so thankful that they decided to bring this concept of Charleston, and allowed us to be proud judges of this special pageant.

This pageant, was about more than just being beautiful. Being a natural woman was very difficult for a lot of us in the beginning. It’s so empowering to see young women embracing who they are and the curls that grow out of their head; is simply beautiful. All the contestants were professional, educated and highly motivated. All nine have serious goals,  hopes and dreams but don’t want to be judged by their hair. One great thing about this pageant is that the winner was able to take the prize money and apply it to their business. Quite the incentive considering most of the women who participated are entrepreneurs.

This year’s winner is Miss Paige Green. Paige is a social worker at her day job and the owner and operator of Paige’s Sweet Treats as well. She received $1000 to invest in her personal business. We were so inspired by this event and can’t wait to attend Miss Naturally Crowned Charleston, 2017.

30 Days 30 Faves – Republic Reign

Of course, Republic Reign of Charleston has to be one of our favorite spots because it’s always poppin’. It is the most popular nightclub and bar here in Charleston.

REPUBLIC3Ma

Every weekend night, it’s packed! We have had quite a few memories in Republic. We collaborated, hosted, and pulled off an awesome day party there last year and that really inspired us to do more events!

REPUBLIC1

They have partnered with us on several different projects and they have all been successful! We believe that Republics most memorable features are the infamous eclectic blue couch and spacious outside patio.

REPUBLIC

The bartenders in Republic are amazing as well. Wayne and Chris are so accommodating and so creative! We are so thankful to have them in our city. Hannah their female bartender that served us during our photo shoot is amazing not to mention super beautiful! She made us several cocktails with out featured spirit, Avion, that were delicious! If you ever want to go out and shake a leg here in Charleston, Republic is the place to be!
